Currency impact calculator
When you hold an asset in another currency, your result depends on two things: how the asset did, and how the currency moved against your home currency. This calculator combines both.
This is an illustrative scenario based on the numbers you entered. It is not a forecast and not a recommendation.
How it works
The return in your home currency is (1 + asset return) x (end exchange rate / start exchange rate) - 1. Exchange rates here are expressed as home currency per one unit of the foreign currency, so a higher end rate means the foreign currency strengthened. The currency effect can add to or subtract from the asset's own return.
Common questions
Why can I lose even if the asset rose?
If the foreign currency weakened by more than the asset gained, the result in your home currency can be lower or negative.
Which exchange rate should I enter?
Use the rate of your home currency per one unit of the foreign currency, at the start and the end of the period you are looking at.
