Compound interest calculator

Compound interest means interest is added to the balance and then earns interest itself. This calculator shows how a starting amount grows over time at a rate you choose.

This is an illustrative scenario based on the numbers you entered. It is not a forecast and not a recommendation.

How it works

The final amount is the starting amount multiplied by (1 + rate / n) raised to the power n x years, where n is how many times a year interest is added. More frequent compounding gives a slightly larger result at the same stated rate, and time matters much more than frequency.

Common questions

Why does time matter so much?

Because growth is applied to a larger balance each period, the same rate adds more in later years than in earlier ones.

Does this include tax or fees?

No. Taxes, fees and changing rates would lower the result.
